Visitor Profile Phase One Results Released

The Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau has engaged the firm of Lauren Schlau Consulting to create a Profile Study of visitors to Catalina Island. The study is being conducted in four phases and will include samples of visitors arriving by passenger ferries, cruise ships, private boats, helicopters and aircraft. The study will segment data for seasonality, weekdays vs, weekends, event attendees and mode of transportation. The first phase was completed in June and some highlights are noted below. Phase two is underway at the present time.

  • Average party size was 2.6 persons
  • 61% were married/partnered
  • Average age mid 40’s
  • Median HH Income $80,000
  • 98% from USA
  • 77% from California
  • 66% from So.California
  • 73% were first time visitors
  • Repeat visitors averaged 3.2 trips in 3 years
  • Catalina was the main destination of the trip for 78%
  • 61% indicated they are likely to return in the next year
  • 50% stayed overnight on Catalina Island with an average reservation being made 3 weeks in advance 
  • Most day visitors were on the island between 5 and 8 hours
  • All Visitors spent an average of $279 per day
