Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau Holds 67th Annual Meeting and Installation of Officer

The newly opened Catalina Island Museum was the venue for the 67th Annual Meeting of the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. A report on the past year’s achievements and future year’s goals by President & CEO Jim Luttjohann was delivered highlighting huge growth in Social Media followers, a new website launch, renovated visitor center, positive growth in visitation and the launching of a visitor profile study.

The Harvey Cowell Business of the Year Award was given to JazzTrax in honor of their 30th year of bringing the annual festival to the island and for drawing thousands of visitors to the island over those years. Accepting the award on behalf of Art Good, was former Mayor and City Council member Ralph Morrow.

Three board members were retired and honored for their service. Cinde Cassidy (Catalina Business Services) and Steve Bray (Steve’s Steakhouse) each completed two terms, serving a total of 6 consecutive years, Ray McKewon (Xceptional Music Company) completed one three year term. New board members installed were Ron Hite (Southern California Edison), Levent Alkibay (Catalina Beverage Company) and Jason Paret (Catalina Island Medical Center).Officers for the 2016-17 fiscal year were also installed with Julie Bovay (Tech Shack) moving from Interim Chair to Chair, Dave Howell as Chair Elect, Tony Budrovich (Catalina Island Conservancy) as Chief Financial Officer. Bill Paige (Leo’s Catalina Drug Store) maintains his post as Past Chair, as does Dave Stevenson (Santa Catalina Island Company) as Marketing Chair.
Volunteer Rose Ellen Gardner, interns Justus Ramming and Nicholis Wood were also thanked for the services and staff members were acknowledged for the hard work over the past year. The meeting closed with a moment to honor Sandy Ferns, an employee of the Chamber/Bureau that recently passed away.
