Catalina’s Flying Fish Now Have Company: Action Flyboarding Offers Catalina Island Guests a Way to Fly Above the Sea

Avalon, Calif. July 26, 2016 – California flying fish are no longer the only things that can fly above the ocean’s surface at Catalina Island. Action Flyboarding, Catalina Island’s newest activity, now offers an opportunity for people to soar above water, approximately 100 yards off the coast of Avalon. It’s been well over six years since the island introduced a new activity concessionaire. Action Flyboarding, the largest flyboard operation in the world, brings a new sense of adventure that gives its participants the ability to fly.

The water craze, popularized on the Kardashians show in 2015, has many people wondering how they can partake in such an exhilarating activity. For those who plan to visit Catalina Island now through October 30 have a chance to do what the Kardashians experienced. The high-adrenaline activity of hovering over the water is something most people can do. In fact, Action Flyboarding assures its guests will fly.
“This is exactly what Catalina Island needs, something new and exciting for people to enjoy,” said Belinda Bain, owner and operator of Action Flyboarding. “On your next trip to the island this should be the cherry on top! We’ll make sure you have a thrill of a lifetime!”

Flyboarding allows riders to soar above the water on a flyboard propelled by a Yamaha Waverunner. A durable industrial-type hose connects the flyboard device to the Waverunner. The power is generated from the pressure by the Waverunner that creates enough propulsion to thrust the rider into the air. Flyboard flyers range from five to eight feet above the water depending on the flyers’ comfort and skill level. The instructor controls the height, and the flyer controls the direction from moving forward, backwards and turns.
“Once our flyers get their groove on they can hover like a helicopter, fly forward like Iron Man or spin around like a top.” added Bain.

The flyboarding operation allows up to four flyers at a time, making it an ideal activity for small groups, couples and families. A single includes a scenic boat ride up the coast of Catalina Island to and from the Action Flyboarding floating barge. Each participant is assigned to a personal instructor at the barge, where they will get into the the water for a one-on-one half hour flight session

Action Flyboarding ensures safety is its number one priority. All instructors are trained and certified in first aid and CPR, and each holds an instruction certification through Boat Education and For Hire. Also, the management staff has lifeguard certification. All participants will learn about safety rules before getting onto the flyboard through a brief safety video and personal instruction from the instructor. All participants are outfitted with helmets and coastguard-approved life vests. All flights begin and end at the Catalina Adventure Tours office located on the green pier at Avalon. This is where guests pick up tickets at will call. After the orientation guests board a shore boat for a 10-minute boat ride that takes them to a 21’ x 40’ float dock, equipped with four Waverunners and flyboards ready for some action. Guests may bring a camera or cell phone to capture photos of their fun in the air.
The grand opening for Action Flyboarding is Thursday, August 4 that includes a red-ribbon cutting ceremony, complimentary food and beverages, and lots of fun raffle prizes. The grand opening event takes place at both the Catalina Adventure Tours office and Action Flyboarding float dock.
