Catalina Island

A World Away, Just An Hour Away

A little more than 20 miles from the coast of southern California, Catalina Island feels like an ocean away from the bustling mainland. But not only is it part of the state of California, it’s part of Los Angeles County.

  • Most visitors visit the city of Avalon, located on the southeastern leeward side of the island.
  • Two Harbors is a small village on the west end of the island. A favorite destination for boaters, campers and adventurers— it is 40 minutes by boat or two hours by bus from Avalon.
  • Encompassing 76-square miles and with more than 50 miles of coastline, Catalina Island is much larger than it seems.
