In celebration of Día de los Muertos, the Catalina Island Museum will erect an ofrenda in its Hagenah Family Lobby. An ofrenda is an alter set up during the Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos, to honor deceased family members. The Avalon community ofrenda will be decorated with traditional paper cuttings, sugar skulls and marigold flowers. The museum requests the Avalon community to contribute images, mementos, favorite foods and beverages of family members and friends to be placed on the ofrenda. This is the first year the museum has celebrated Día de los Muertos, but it hopes to grow the celebration into an annual event. The ofrenda may be added to, and will be on view from, October 30th through November 2nd.
