    The DC-3 at Catalina Island’s Airport in the Sky is firing up the grill for its annual “End of Summer BBQ” on Saturday September 7. 

    Before dinner appetizers include homemade tortilla chips and salsa plus vegetables and dip. The “all you can eat” buffet starts at 5 pm. Enjoy delicious Tri-tip, Baked Chicken, Caesar Salad, Homemade Bread  toasted with Garlic butter, Parmesan Potatoes, Corn on the Cob and Apple Pie a la mode for dessert. The cost is $40 + tax and includes a complimentary fountain drink. Beer, wine and other flavored waters are also available for purchase.

    Customers can take time to shop in DC-3’s outstanding Gift Shop before or after dinner.  Choose from aviation, island, hiking or bison themed apparel and hats plus backpacks, books, magnets, mugs and children’s gifts. Pick up some “Buffalo Jerky” or take some world famous Airport Cookies for later. 

    The spectacular sunset views from the restaurant’s patio are magical. Guests may also explore Catalina Island history at the Conservancy’s Nature Center.  Check out the Airport’s original Catalina tiles (circa 1927-1937) DC-3’s dining room with its huge wood beams and rustic river rock fireplace. 

    The Airport is open daily for general aviation. Located 10 miles from Avalon , and less than an hour from Two Harbors or coves at the west end, all roads lead steeply upward to the airport at its elevation of 1,602 ft.  

    Friends love to gather for DC-3’s delicious food, to have a cool beverage on a warm day or to see private planes come and go from the Airport’s newly refurbished 3000 ft runway. Shuttle service is available from Avalon. Call (310) 510-0143 for info and reservations.
