Recognized as one of the world's longest running annual celebrations of Silent Film, this annual event is in its 33rd year and held in the historic Avalon Casino Theatre, William Wrigley Jr.'s 1929 Art Deco Movie Palace. Attendees will be treated to an authentic 1920s cinematic experience with the screening of the 1922 film, "Blood and Sand" starring Rudolph Valentino and Lila Lee with live musical accompaniment by Michael Mortilla & The Accompanists. A short that was filmed on the island will also be shown.
This event will also celebrate what would have been Valentino's 125th birthday. Period dress is encouraged. (Doors open at 12:30pm) 1pm-3pm.
The Avalon Silent Film Showcase will also feature events on Friday, May 15 and Sunday, May 17 at the Catalina Island Museum.
