The Catalina Island Conservancy continues to strive to be a responsible steward of our lands, staff and visitors. As we monitor the latest updates from the CDC, WHO, State of California, LA County, and the City and business community of Avalon, we are trying to make sustainable, collaborative decisions for our island and community. The Conservancy takes the health and safety of the public, staff and residents very seriously.

Statement from the Catalina Express

The safety and security of our passengers and employees are the top priorities for Catalina Express. Please know that we are actively monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation around the clock and have precautions in place. As we follow the guidance of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), U.S. Coast Guard, US Travel Association and public health professionals, Catalina Express continues to operate with a very limited schedule for passengers until further notice. Catalina Express will be temporarily suspending service from our San Pedro and Dana Point terminals starting on Monday, March 23. See schedule.

At this time, we do not encourage any non-essential travel to Catalina Island. Businesses on the Island will be extremely limited including accommodations, activities, bars and restaurants.

Our Commitment to Cleanliness

For the past several weeks, we have implemented an enhanced cleaning process. While the cleaning process of our terminals and vessels has always been robust, we have taken steps to invest in stronger disinfectants and continue to evaluate our cleaning procedures. Frequently touched surfaces in the terminals, vessels and offices such as door knobs, handles, ticket counters, arm rests, seat trays and handrails will be wiped down with disinfectant on a recurrent basis. We are reinforcing training procedures to ensure cleaning processes are conducted properly by our employees. Catalina Express also offers hand sanitizers at our ticket windows for passengers to utilize as well as hand sanitizers for our employees.

Catalina Express’ capacity for our vessels meet the social distancing requirements. We are encouraging social distancing on the boats and asking passengers to follow the guidance of health professionals by sitting 6 feet away from other passengers.

For those passengers who have traveled outside of the country or have been in contact with someone who is sick, please stay home and do not travel. In addition, we highly encourage passengers to follow the advice of the CDC on everyday preventive actions, such as washing your hands and covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, followed by hand washing. The CDC recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm, clean running water.

Passenger Travel Policy

Given the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have adapted our cancellation policy over the past several weeks to the evolving nature of this situation. Passengers may change or cancel without obligation, provided they alter their reservation prior to travel by:

  • Calling our call center to change their reservation for another day or departure.

  • For those looking to change or cancel on the same day, please contact our call center prior to the scheduled departure.

For passengers who arranged their travel with our Group Sales team, please contact our Group Sales department concerning moving your trip.

We will continue to provide updates throughout this situation and appreciate everyone's cooperation.

Statement from Catalina Beverage

On behalf of everyone at Catalina Beverage, our hearts go out to all those impacted by COVID-19--this includes not only those diagnosed with the virus but also their friends and family, those whose jobs and schools have been impacted and so many more. Our number one focus is, as always, on the health and safety of our employees, customers and our community.  Our team is in place and managing our response to COVID-19. We are working with and following the guidance of government health authorities.

We have also taken steps to ensure Catalina Beverage is prepared to protect our supply chain and maintain business continuity.  We will do everything in our power to continue providing our community with products and services. We have increased our inventory levels on products that we think that our community needs and is unable to find anywhere else in town.  Our suppliers have stepped up and are helping us provide increased levels on water, paper products, cleaning supplies, rice, beans any and all essential items you all have been buying and many more. Just like our community we have;

  • Implemented measures that encourage proper hygiene and cleanliness at both of our facilities
  • Encouraged any employees that flu-like symptoms to stay home and not to come work
  • Discouraged any large-scale gatherings of our employees
  • Limited externals visitors to our facilities.

We also are aware of other cities, counties are being issued “Shelter In Place” orders.  Because of the nature of our business and what we provide to the community we are “Exempt” from those orders.  If need to be we will step up and start doing home deliveries to those in need.

There is no question that this is a time of great uncertainty.  While we don’t know exactly what the future may hold, we feel confident that by sticking together and supporting each other, we will emerge from this stronger than before.

Thank you for your business, and loyalty.
