New Villa Volunteer Program

Hotel Villa Portofino, one of Catalina’s premier hotels, has joined with the Catalina Island Conservancy in a Villa Volunteer Package that provides visitors an opportunity to engage in a learning/volunteer vacation experience.  The Catalina Island Conservancy has been at the forefront of restoring the Island’s unique environment to its original state, before man’s “footprint” changed the environment.  The package includes:
·    Accommodations at the Hotel Villa Portofino
·    Roundtrip boat transportation aboard the Catalina Express from San Pedro, Long Beach or Dana Point
·    Roundtrip taxi transfers
·    Roundtrip shuttle to/from the James H. Ackerman Native Plant Nursery
·    Lunch at the DC3 Restaurant at the Aiport In The Sky

Guest meet at the Wilcox Nursery parking lot at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am sharp departure to the James H. Ackerman Native Plant Nursery. While at the Nursery they will perform a variety of horticultural tasks, as they learn about Catalina's environment and the native plant species found there.  At noon, guests board the shuttle to be dropped off at the Airport In The Sky where they have lunch from a set menu.  Guests are asked to let the hotel know their lunch choice at time of booking. The menu is posted on Hotel Villa Portofino’s website.

After lunch guests have the option of taking the 1:30 pm shuttle back to Avalon or they can hike the scenic Airport Loop Trail, which can take from one to two hours depending on each person's pace.  If guests choose to hike the trail, they can take the 3:30 pm shuttle back to Avalon.  For information about hiking on Catalina, visit Airport Loop Trail and Map of Catalina Island.  The package is offered year-round and volunteer work is on Thursdays, only.  Rates start at $170.50 per person, double occupancy, and room upgrades and extra nights are available at an additional cost. Weekend, holiday and summer rates are higher. The Villa Volunteer package can be booked by calling the Hotel Villa Portofino at 888-510-0555/310-510-0555 or booking online at www.HotelVillaPortofino.com.
