2011 Catalina Island Triathlon

Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce Signs Agreement for the Production of the 2011 Catalina Island Triathlon

AVALON, CATALINA ISLAND, January 24, 2011 – The Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce they have signed a contract with Spectrum Sports Management, LLC to produce the Chamber’s 2011 through 2013 Catalina Island Triathlon.

Spectrum Sports Management was selected to produce the Chamber’s Catalina Island Triathlon from among sports management companies responding to a request for proposals issued by the Chamber following the 2010 Triathlon. Pacific Sports, the company previously contracted by the Chamber to produce the Catalina Island Triathlon, did not submit a proposal.

The annual Catalina Island Triathlon traditionally occurs the first Saturday in November and is considered one of the most picturesque venues for a triathlon. The Triathlon was recently awarded the Top Ten Most Scenic Races by Triathlete Magazine (March 2010). Catalina Island is located just 22 miles off the coast of Southern California and is easily accessible by boat or helicopter. Catalina Island’s Mediterranean climate allows for November water temperatures in the mid to high 60's and air temperatures in the 70's. The scenic course consists of a ½ mile swim in the calm ocean waters of Avalon Bay, a 15 kilometer bike ride and a 3.1 mile (5 km) run.

Spectrum Sports Management, LLC is a full-service sports and event marketing agency with expertise in participant events; from world class championships to grass roots event marketing, the company also specializes in sponsorship packaging and sales that deliver the desired results for sponsoring organizations. Spectrum Sports Management is owned by Mike Bone, a sports marketing and management professional with more than 25 years of experience in the race industry.
