18th Annual Shop at Home Night on Catalina Island
Kick off the Winter Lights Celebration Holiday Season and take advantage of Holiday Discounts
Avalon, Catalina Island – The 18th Annual Shop At Home Night is on Saturday this year December 3rd, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Kick off the Winter Lights Celebration! It’s a merry way to get into the holiday spirit, enter to win prizes, enjoy the yuletide entertainment, and have a fun money-saving evening of holiday shopping, while supporting the community.
Shop At Home Night kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony on the Wrigley Stage on the waterfront in Avalon. The community tree lighting will start at 5:00pm on Saturday. Shoppers can gather around to watch the festivities as Santa and his “helpers” arrive by Fire Truck. Enjoy the strolling Jingle Singers carolers and then pick up the Treasure and Discount cards and hit the stores! Adding to the festivities, many of the participating stores will be offering refreshments and holiday treats.
Other events happening during Shot At Home Night include:
· Get your photo taken with Santa. Bring two cans of food to El Galleon Restaurant and get a free photo with Santa.
· Toys 4 Tots Toy Drive & Bake Sale, sponsored by Unit 400 Avalon Cub & Boy Scouts, Wrigley Stage 5:00pm-9:00pm. Bring an unwrapped toy or cash donation and receive a baked goodie. All toys will benefit local children.
· Avalon Goes will be selling raffle tickets and giving away soup to raise funds for Avalon kids to go to Disney World Florida in the spring.
· Avalon Community Church and Singing Waters Christian Center prayer booth
· CHOICES will be selling See’s Candy as a fundraiser
Avalon retailers are planning some terrific discounts and all shoppers will be able to enter to win prizes. On Shop At Home Night, each store will have a drawing to give away an in-store gift or gift certificate. Get your Treasure Card stamped at each of the participating merchants and enter to win reservations for two to the 2011 New Year’s Eve Gala.
Shoppers will also receive one Winter Lights Celebration Discount Card valid through Christmas Eve at any of the 15 participating Avalon retailers. The discount card can be picked up during Shop At Home Night at any participating store and will be good for 10-20% off all purchases made at any participating store between December 3rd and December 24th. Some merchants are offering a larger discount on Shop at Home Night only. No purchase is necessary to receive the Winter Lights Celebration Discount Card or to enter the in-store drawing but you must be 16 years or over.

The Chamber has named the month of December the “Winter Lights Celebration” and is encouraging all businesses and residents to go all out in decorating the community in lights for the month of December. Awards will be given for the best decorated business and residence. Lights must be up by December 11th to be judged. Winners will be announced on Friday, December 16th at noon. The winners in each category will receive two complimentary reservations at the Chamber's New Year's Eve Gala in the Casino Ballroom.
"The Winter Lights Celebration is intended to give visitors a reason to visit the island during the month of December" states Catrina Awalt, chair of the Chamber's Board of Directors and co-owner of Two's Company of Catalina.
The Winter Lights Celebration events include:
12/1-12/3 The Avalon High School Theatre Department presents Clue, the classic murder mystery. 7:00pm. $8 adults, $5 students/seniors. Experience a different ending each night!
12/3 Ladies Catalina Christmas Brunch at the M Restaurant by Zest Catering. 9:30am – 11:30am. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
12/04 Holiday Brunch at Steve’s Steakhouse, 11:00am – 2:30pm
12/5 – 12/16 Santa’s Mail Box in the Post Office Arcade. Any child wishing to write Santa will receive a reply in they include their return PO Box.
12/10 Display Day Fly-In: Airport in the Sky Fly-in or take the Wildlands Express from the Avalon Plaza to Airport in the Sky for Display Day Fly-In from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Aircraft built 1961 and earlier land free. You'll enjoy visiting with pilots from around the region and viewing amazing airplanes.
12/16 Holiday Open House at the Catalina Island Museum featuring free admission to the museum’s current exhibition, discounts of 10% - 50% in the Museum Store and a special tasting provided by Steve’s Steakhouse. 4:00pm-7:00pm
12/17 Holiday Concert with the Surf City Singers are from the Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts. They will perform on Wrigley Stage at 11:00am, 12:00 noon and 1:00pm
12/17 Catalina Island Conservancy's Families in Nature program continues with trips into Catalina's beautiful interior. A free program for Island residents. Call (310) 510-0954 to reserve your place on the bus! Reservations are required.
