Descanso Beach Club Introduces Weekend Dinner Menus in a Spectacular Catalina Island Setting Featuring Avalon’s Only Seaside Dining

AVALON, Catalina Island, Calif. (June 16, 2010) — Descanso Beach Club on Santa Catalina Island has introduced weekend dinner menus ideal for couples who want to enjoy a romantic dinner at Avalon’s only seaside restaurant and bar or families who want to eat steps away from where their children can play in the sand.

Descanso Beach Club is tucked away in a picturesque cove just past the historic Avalon Casino. The Descanso Beach Club restaurant is located in a spectacular open-air setting, where the ocean breezes ruffle guest’s hair and diners can revel in the joy of eating outdoors.  Surrounded by lush, tropical foliage and views of the iconic Casino and the lights on the mainland, weekend diners at Descanso Beach Club’s restaurant can savor such appetizers as Macadamia Coconut Shrimp or Smoked Duck and Vegetable Spring Rolls. For entrees, the menu features a selection of smoked and grilled items including Beef Brisket, Barbecued Chicken, New York Steak, Pork Ribs, as well as burgers like the Surf & Turf Burger, charbroiled half-pound ground sirloin with lump crab, brie, haystack onions, and truffle aioli on a herbed ciabatta. The restaurant also serves specialties from the sea such as Cioppino, Barbecued Seafood Brochette and a Fresh Daily Catch. As the sun sets and the waves lap against the beach, diners can end their dinner on a sweet note with desserts such as Warm Flourless Chocolate Cake or Pistachio Encrusted Fried Brie. The restaurant is also open for daytime dining.

For visitors who would rather do the cooking themselves, the BBQ Under the Stars is a memorable way to enjoy Catalina. From 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday throughout summer, visitors can bring their own items or purchase market priced meat and seafood to grill on a 25-foot-long, open-air barbecue at the Descanso Beach Club. The restaurant provides the spices, sauces, and condiments and 10 different hot and cold sides or salads. Reservations are recommended but not required.

Descanso Beach Club underwent a transformation for 2010 with upgraded furnishings in the restaurant, fire rings on the beach and new high-end amenities such as private cabana rentals that include two chaise lounge chairs, patio dining table with four chairs, bowl of whole assorted fruit, cabana host/hostess and food server, complimentary wireless Internet and beach towels for use while at Descanso Beach Club.
