Catalina Island on TV

Island Economy to Benefit as Entertainment Spotlight Shines Bright
Catalina sights and sounds to reach over 30 million viewers

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Bachelor” headline a list of eight nationally televised shows that filmed on Catalina Island over the last year. The Island’s courtship of some oftelevision’s most successful franchises is expected to provide a healthy boost to island tourism, and shows no sign of slowing down.

“It’s great exposure for Catalina,“ said Brad Wilson, Chief Marketing Officer for Santa Catalina Island Company (SCICO). “We’ve been fortunate to work with some really high-profile names, and our community has proven to be a fantastic host. It’s a lot of fun to turn on the TV and pick out the people and places that make Catalina Island such a great place to visit and live.”

The shows, which also include “Kidnapped by the Kids” and “Millionaire Matchmaker,” will broadcast Catalina into the homes of an estimated 30 million Americans by the time they’re done airing. SCICO officials expect the trend to continue and hope to further widen exposure for the Island in the coming year. “We’ve already had another major network show shoot a segment on the Island this spring, but we can’t announce the name of the show until next fall,” said Wilson.

About the Shows:
• “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” featured Catalina’s famous Unimog ride and took viewers soaring through the canyons on the Zip Line.
• OWN Network’s “Kidnapped by the Kids” used Catalina as the setting for a show that featured the Pavilion Hotel and Zip Line.
• “The Bachelor” Brad Womack and date Chantal went on an underwater date in the new Sea Trek Undersea Adventure and finished their evening with dinner around the fire ring at Descanso Beach Club.
• “The Bachelorette” chose Catalina for Ali and Roberto’s final romantic getaway
