3/14   Catalina Island Conservancy Marathon/10K/5K/Kids Run
This event will feature the exciting and historic marathon course, used largely since the first year, on the Catalina Island Conservancy’s lands. This includes much of the rugged terrain, spectacular vistas and special challenges enjoyed by Hans Albrecht and friends in the earliest days of the event under his management and enhanced over the years. One of the greatest horror films of the silent era, The Phantom of the Opera will be showcased during the Silent Film Benefit. The film will be presented in the famed Avalon Casino Theater, one of the grandest movie palaces of the 1920s. Live accompaniment of the 1925 horror classic starring Lon Chaney will feature a 26-piece symphony orchestra and a soprano vocalist led by Grammy Award-winning conductor Richard Kaufman. 1pm-3:30pm. 9/12-9/13   56th Annual Catalina Channel Crossing – US Outrigger Championships
Come out and see the women finish the longest Polynesian canoe race in the continental U.S., 26 miles from Newport Beach to Avalon, on Saturday, at Casino Point. Then enjoy the after race Hawaiian festivities at the center of town; including music and beer garden. On Sunday watch the men start their race back to Newport Beach from Lovers Cove.
